joost hendrickx – drummer/ composer/educator
With over 20 years of experience in the music industry, Joost Hendrickx has built a diverse and dynamic career as a drummer, studio musician, and educator. His journey began at Leeds College of Music (now Leeds Conservatoire), where he studied under the esteemed drummers Tony Mann and Dave Walsh, graduating in 2008 with a 1st class BA (Hons) degree in Music (Jazz Studies).
Since then, Joost has performed and recorded with an array of world-class artists, including Abstract Orchestra, Kefaya & Elaha Soroor, The Sorcerers, Chip Wickham, Gotts Street Park, John Carroll Kirby, Eddie Chacon, Nubiyan Twist, Submotion Orchestra, XOA, Celeste, Pip Millett, Charlotte Dos Santos, Ruby Turner, Nicki Wells, and Sarathy Korwar.
His career has taken him to some of the world's most prestigious festivals, including Glastonbury, Fuji Rock (Japan), Latitude, BST, Love Supreme, and multiple WOMAD festivals across the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Spain. He has also appeared on "Later... with Jools Holland," BBC 6 Music's "Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show (Live)," and BBC Radio 4's "Loose Ends" and "Planet Music."
Beyond live performance, Joost is an in-demand studio musician. His drumming can be heard on recordings with Paloma Faith, Illa J, MF Doom, and Slum Village, as well as in global productions such as Netflix's "Chicken Run 2: Dawn of the Nugget," Channel 4's "We Are Lady Parts," and the live dance production of Akram Khan's "Chotto Xenos."
In addition to his work as a performer and session musician, Joost is passionate about music education. He currently holds a position as Senior Lecturer in Popular Music (Drums) at Leeds Conservatoire, where he shares his knowledge and experience with the next generation of musicians.
